Off we go on the big
trip,
first
tooling
around
town
in
preparation,
then getting serious,
east on 80 through
Yolo towards Sacramento,
branching off on 50,
then up into the
Foothills
to
a
Fresh Pond supply stop,
onward up South Fork American River Canyon
and
Strawberry
Grade
to
Echo Summit
and
down
to the
Tahoe Basin,
another
break,
past the
Lake,
across the
Nevada border,
contouring around
to
Cave Junction,
upslope to
Spooner,
descending
Clear
Creek
Canyon
towards
Carson
City
Junction 395
and the beltway
for

another
stop --
just
before
Dayton
and
Stagecoach
Valleys /
Lahonton
Reservoir.
Beyond,
it's
Fallon,
approaching

Road
in
America:
Clan
Alpine,
Middlegate,
Desatoya
Range,
Edwards
Creek
Valley,
New
Pass
Grade,
Mt
Airy,
Toiyabe
Range.
Brief
stop
in
Austin,
then
ascend Pony Canyon to the
divide,
descending
in
a
rather
unfocussed
fashion
to
further
Basins
and
Ranges,
including
Antelope Valley,
Whistler
Mountains,
Devil's
Gate,
Eureka-
wise.
Shadows
of
the
evening
fall
towards
the
Pancake
and
Alhambra
Ranges.
At last
Ely,
accommodations
and
dinner, on the 63rd day of summer, high up 7 to 98 (Ely, 70)...
