River a second time,

up Graham Cave Ridge,

through

St. Louis,

coursing above the Mississippi --

a

long

haul

through

long green corridors of

Illinois

and

almost-all-of

Indiana,

via Indianapolis,

ending up

at

Richmond (with Erlham College, and just before the Ohio line),

where the high is 85, as opposed to Topeka's 92 --66th day of summer way out west, topping out again at 73...

Farewell to the Front Range,

as we continue to head east on 70

(after a checkered night in Denver),

the High Plains

undulating slightly

over the

Kansas

border

to

a

well-appointed

Visitor's

Center

and

beyond --

eventually

slight

undulations

and

surprising

relief

in

the

Smoky

and

Flint
